Greta Van Fleet (finally)
About three years ago, I was returning from school in Luxembourg, where I dropped my two daughters, and while waiting for the green light, I had this tune on Classic 21 radio station that I have never previously heard before.
My thoughts were…. Did Robert Plant record a new song, or is there a possibility that I haven’t heard this song from the Led Zeppelin discography? However, I was sure that the latter is surely not the case.
As soon as I got home, I started searching and discovered Greta. The thrill that I felt after listening to their first album, “From the fires,” was something that kept me going for months, and I couldn't wait to see these guys live.
Luckily for me, I found out that they will be playing at the Pink Pop festival near Mastricht and got my tickets. I was worried that maybe these guys wouldn't deliver live what they have offered with studio records. Luckily, the guys hammered at the festival, and I finally had a band that I could call my own.
Ever since I was a kid, I grew up with rock and roll, and no music could be compared with the sounds that it had offered. The bends like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, Omega, Yes, Frank Zappa and the Mothers, Halfbread, Gentle Giant, Mountain, The Velvet Underground, Doors, The Who, Grand Funk Railroad…..Damn, the list could go for miles; I’ve loved them all. Yet again, there was very few I had an opportunity to see live. And this was the reason why I felt joy.
Finally, a super rock and roll band was here to produce and offer new sounds that I was so passionately longing for.
The sounds of the first album just kept me going with Greta on each of my playlists. I was fearful that maybe this is a one record wonder, and again I was waiting for a disappointment and surprise.
A surprise!
The second album, “Anthem Of Peaceful Army”, was different yet magnificent.
After this one and with all my music knowledge, I have declared them the greatest Rock & Roll band of the modern age. When all hope for Rock was lost, with bands being classified as rock, Greta came and showed what Rock really is.
The last album I had preordered four months before the release date, as I knew that these guys will go on as now there are no limits. They have the talent; they have the youth. They have the sound!
